Create your first server

Open Servers and choose Create server. The wizard has six short steps.

  1. Software. A name (letters, digits, dots, dashes and underscores; players type it to switch servers in the network), then the server software and its Minecraft version:
    • Paper: fast and widely used; runs Bukkit, Spigot and Paper plugins.
    • Purpur: Paper with many more gameplay settings.
    • Folia: Paper that spreads the world over many cores, for very busy servers. Only plugins written for Folia work, and new Minecraft versions may have beta builds only.
    • Vanilla: Mojang’s own server, without plugins. It is joined directly, not through the network.
  2. Resources. Memory and CPU to reserve, and the Node: automatic placement picks the enabled, healthy Node with the most free memory.
  3. Gameplay. Starting settings such as difficulty, game mode, PvP and view distance. They are written before the first start only; change them later under Settings.
  4. Network. Whether the server joins the network (on by default for Paper, Purpur and Folia).
  5. Team. The team that owns the server, and accepting the Minecraft EULA, which the server needs to start.
  6. Review, then Create server.

Shardkeep reserves the resources, downloads and verifies the software, and the Node starts the server. Its Overview shows what you asked for next to what the Node reports, and Activity shows each step.

  • In the network, players join the network’s address and switch with /server <name>. See Your network’s address.
  • Outside the network (Vanilla, or before the network has a proxy), players join the Node’s address on the server’s own port, shown on its Overview.
